Controlling noxious weeds has been a contentious issue on the Front Range and throughout the Rocky Mountain West. Many people are concerned about the hazards of herbicide use, yet this is now the primary method employed to control the many invasive weeds that threaten our region's native environment. We suggest a new approach, oriented towards reducing the use of toxins, yet achieving excellent results. Millions of public dollars are spent on the chemical control of weeds in Colorado each year. In Natural Controls for Noxious Weeds, we demonstrate that these budgets could be reduced, and more lasting solutions developed.
This video describes the noxious weed problem and explains the benefits of using non-chemical control methods. Several successful Biocontrol , manual control, and land reclamation programs are presented. The problem of invasive ornamentals is explored, and the political aspect of herbicide reduction is discussed.
